Thomas Hammersly (1727-81)
New York ca. 1760
What is known of Thomas Hammersly is based on "a few newspaper advertisements, even fewer documentary references, and the silver that has survived. In August 1756 he advertised that 'a negro fellow named DukeŠ[who] can work at the goldsmith's business' had run away. He offered 20s. if the workman was apprehended in the city, 40 s. plus expenses if apprehended elsewhere."
