Glass teapot

England, 1730-45

Teapots were occasionally fabricated of glass in the eighteenth century (almost exclusively in Europe). This colorless glass teapot is extremely rare. Most glass teapots were made of opaque white glass, which was then painted to imitate porcelain. "Such glass tea sets were advertised in Boston in 1732 by Rebecca Abbot. The 'white' glass teawares she stocked may have included teapots like this because white was a term for colorless glass."
